Happy Valley, PA

Nestled in the very centre of Pennsylvania, Happy Valley, PA offers adventure that’s not quite like you’ll find anywhere else. Experience idyllic getaways and banner events — from record-breaking football games to a base camp for hiking trails in over 750,000 acres worth of public lands — all in the same place. Happy Valley is probably best known for being the home of Penn State University and the Nittany Lions. But it is also smacked in the middle of the state of Pennsylvania. Visitors from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC can make the drive in under 4 hours. While the name might imply that Happy Valley is one valley it is actually a collection of five; Nittany Valley, Penns Valley, Moshannon Valley, Brush Valley, and Bald Eagle Valley. These five valleys include the towns of State College, Bellefonte, Boalsburg, Centre Hall, and Phillipsburg.

There is something for everyone here. Happy Valley is a great place to visit during any time of the year. Spring kicks off with festivities for Blue-White game, Penn State home sporting events, the AAUW book sale and Memorial Day in Boalsburg, where the event was born.  Summer brings athletes from around the world to compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 PENNSYLVANIA HAPPY VALLEY. Just days later, 4th Fest will fill the skies with one of the biggest volunteer-run fireworks displays in the country. It’s a summer of festivals and fairs: The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, People’s Choice, Tussey Mountain WingFest, Central PA Theatre & Dance Fest and Grange Fair.

Autumn is a favourite time here because of football weekends. It’s also time for Punkin’ Chunkin’, Nittany Antique Machinery Show, the Centre Film Festival, and fall festivals across the county. Winter brings its own fun, from Bellefonte Victorian Christmas and Winter Market to First Night State College, Tussey Mountain Ski Area. "For The Kids" rings out in February with all the excitement and philanthropy of THON at Penn State.

Take some time to explore the shops, restaurants, and bars to enjoy gorgeous local fayre and craft beer and local coconut rum. You can find some great public art and some of the more eclectic shops and galleries. There are also many museums and historic sites to visit including the Columbus Chapel where you will find the Most Important Columbus Collection in North America. Located in Boalsburg, the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion is home to some of the most priceless artefacts in all of Pennsylvania. Inside the two main buildings are Christopher Columbus’ Sea Chest, Crusade relics that are said to be from Jesus’ cross, a lock of Napoleon’s hair, and much, much more. Other notable museums include the Palmer Museum of Art, the Matson Museum of Anthropology, the All-Sports Museum, the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum and Art Gallery, the Frost Entomological Museum, the Pasto Agricultural Museum. and the Bellefonte Art Museum (BAM)
