Day 1 - Fly from the UK to Minneapolis St Paul, MN

Stay one night in the ‘Twin Cities’, located on the Mississippi River in Minnesota. Visit the Science Museum of Minnesota, including their Mississippi River Gallery & Exhibit and the “Mysteries of the Great Lakes” film. See a show or take a tour at the famous Guthrie Theater. Built into the ruins of what was once the world’s largest flour mill, the Mill City Museum is a fantastic feat of architecture well worth seeing. In the mood for a bit of shopping? Check out the Mall of America.

Day 2 - Minneapolis to the Brainerd Lakes area, MN, approx. 140 miles

Often referred to as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, if you don’t spend some time on, in or close to a lake, you haven’t really been to Minnesota! This area is known for its natural beauty, with clear blue lakes and plush green forests, as well as its abundance of outdoor activities both on the water and dry-land, festivals and unique shopping. Spend two nights in the Brainerd Lakes area.

Day 4 - Brainerd Lakes to Bayfield, WI, approx. 195 miles

This small town on the edge of Lake Superior serves as the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, a National Park that includes 21 wilderness islands and over 12 miles of scenic peninsula shoreline. The area is also known for its collection of historic lighthouses. Bayfield itself has some unique galleries and shops showcasing local art.

Day 6 Bayfield to Green Bay, WI, approx. 280 miles

Twice awarded the title of ‘All-American City’, Green Bay is also known as ‘Titletown’ due to the number of professional football Super Bowl titles the Green Bay Packers have won! It is also a great starting point for visiting Door County, the Cape Cod of the Mid-West. There are five state parks, ten lighthouses and over 300 miles of shoreline.

Day 7 Green Bay to Ephraim, WI, approx. 75 miles

Located in Door County, known as the ‘Cape Cod of the Midwest’, Ephraim and the surrounding area has five state parks, ten lighthouses and over 300 miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan. Visit museums and galleries, take to the water on a fishing charter or kayak under your own steam, or just sit back and admire the view.

Day 9 - Ephraim to Kohler, WI, approx. 130 miles

Kohler is known as Wisconsin’s premier golf destination with Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run being part of the historic American Club Resort. It is a picture-perfect village along the banks of the Sheboygan River. It is also home to the innovative Kohler Design Center. Kohler-Andre State Park with majestic sand dunes and miles of golden beach along Lake Michigan is also nearby.

Day 10 - Kohler to Milwaukee, WI, approx. 55 miles

Once known almost exclusively as a brewing powerhouse, Milwaukee now boasts a beautiful Riverwalk area and the Milwaukee Art Museum, with an impressive addition designed by Santiago Calatrava. The modernist building is shaped like a floating cross and certainly makes you stand and stare! Visit the Harley-Davidson Museum, or play a round of golf at nearby Erin Hills, which hosted the US Open in 2017.

Day 11 - Milwaukee to Rome, WI, approx. 160 miles

Home to the Sand Valley Golf Resort, voted ‘Best New Course You Can Play – 2017’ by Golf Magazine. This scenic area close to the Wisconsin River was once the lakebed of an ancient glacial lake and now forms the sand dunes of Central Wisconsin. 

Day 12 - Rome to Madison, WI, approx. 105 miles

This is the capital of Wisconsin as well as the home of the University of Wisconsin, yet it retains an small town vibe. Visit the Capitol Building modelled on the one in Washington D.C, or tour one of the museums. There are plenty of great places to eat a drink, as well as a shopping area in the heart of the downtown area. You can also enjoy some great cycling or kayaking and canoeing in the area.

Day 13 - Madison to La Crosse, WI, approx. 135 miles

Head west to Spring Green and visit Taliesin, one of the stops on the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail, before continuing to the Mississippi River. Take the Great River Road north to La Crosse through the tiny river communities of Ferryville, Genoa and Stoddard. Bird watching is a favorite activity all along the river. At La Crosse, plan to take an evening river cruise and visit Granddad’s Bluff.

Day 14 - La Crosse to Minneapolis, MN, approx. 150 miles

Continue north on some of the most beautiful sections of the Great River Road in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Highlights along this stretch include Alma, which has one of the best views of the river bluffs anywhere at Buena Vista Park. Wabasha is home to the National Eagle Center, a truly unforgettable experience. Tiny Red Wing, is a quaint river town famous for the shoes and pottery that bear its name. Spend your final night in Minneapolis where you can check out some of the sights you didn’t see at the beginning of your trip, or do some last minute shopping. 

Day 15 - Fly from Minneapolis back to the UK
