Day 1 - Fly from the UK to Boston

As America’s oldest city, Boston has a lot of history, but yet has a modern and contemporary vibe. Year-round you can enjoy everything from the Red Sox and Paul Revere to Cheers and clam chowder! Find your way around on foot or using the ‘T’, the local subway system that runs throughout Boston, into Cambridge and nearby suburbs, providing access to the main Boston attractions.

Days 2-3 - Discover Boston

Spend a couple of days getting to know the vibrant downtown and various neighbourhoods of the city. Regardless of whether you are a history buff, sports fanatic, beer drinker, marathon runner, music lover, foodie, outdoor enthusiast, cultural vulture or indeed all of these, you won’t run out of things to do!

A great way to get your bearings and learn a bit more about the city, is to walk the Freedom Trail a well-preserved pedestrian path that weaves in and out of historic neighbourhoods. Then you can delve into a host of different experiences and sights. Get a bird’s eye view from View Boston at the top of the Prudential Center, before returning to street level and shopping in the mall below. Or check-out the fabulous stores on Newbury Street and browse the antique shops and distinctive red-brick buildings of Beacon Hill. Faneuil Hall is a great place for souvenir shopping.

Tour Fenway Park, home to the Red Sox, or TD Gardens, home of the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins, and pick-up some genuine sporting merchandise. If you’re a fan of the outdoors you can kayak on the Charles River, rent a bike, stroll the Esplanade of the Charles River or picnic on Boston Common - don’t forget to look out for the ‘Make Way For Ducklings’ and ‘Embrace’ sculptures for the perfect photo op.

Boston’s museums are second to none, and you’ll find world-renowned art at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art, or fascinating history at the Harvard Museum of Natural History and more contemporary and innovative exhibits at the MIT Museum. Soak up some more culture at the Boston Center for the Arts, Symphony Hall or one of the theatres in the city.

Fill-up at lunchtime in lively Quincy Market, enjoy a delicious authentic Italian meal in the North End, great pub food at Cheers Bar, an incredible banquet in Chinatown or sample a variety of cuisines on a walking foodie tour. The newly developed Seaport District is a great place for some waterside dining.  Nightlife is found throughout the city, with anything from brew-pubs to cocktail bars, and music clubs to concert venues.

Day 4 - Day Trip to Salem or Whale Watching

From May to October, you can take a whale-watching tour from the New England Aquarium, guided by a marine biologist, which will take you out to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, a rich feeding ground for whales, dolphins, sea birds, and other marine creatures. Stellwagen is home to many species of large whales, including humpbacks, finbacks, and minkes.

Alternatively stay on dry-land and take a short train ride out to Salem, known for the Salem Witch Trials and Salem Haunted Happenings, the largest celebration of Halloween in the world! You’ll discover much more as well, in this harbour town, with its walking Heritage Trail, boutiques, restaurants and bars, as well as boat cruises and kayaking.
