Day 1 - San Francisco

Fly from the UK to San Francisco and spend two nights in the City by the Bay. This compact, walkable city is home to iconic landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, historic cable cars and the largest Chinatown in the United States. Wander through neighbourhoods such as Union Square, North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf, each offering its own distinct character. San Francisco is also renowned for its excellent culinary scene, from fresh seafood on the waterfront to Michelin starred restaurants, while a cruise on the bay or a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge are unforgettable ways to experience the city.

Day 3 – Drive to Sonoma Wine Country, approx. 45 miles

Collect your hire car and drive north to Sonoma County, one of California's most celebrated wine regions. Home to more than 370 wineries, Sonoma combines award winning vineyards with charming small towns, rolling countryside and an outstanding farm to table food scene. Beyond the vineyards, discover ancient redwood forests, scenic coastal drives, boutique shops, art galleries and relaxing spas, making it an ideal place to slow the pace and enjoy Wine Country.

Day 5 – Drive to Sacramento, approx. 70 miles

Sacramento, California's capital and America's Farm to Table Capital. This cosmopolitan city blends Gold Rush history with an excellent dining scene, fascinating museums, attractive parks and a lively waterfront. Explore the historic Old Sacramento district, browse independent shops or enjoy one of the city's many restaurants showcasing the region's fresh local produce.

Day 6 – Drive to Lake Tahoe, approx. 115 miles

Lake Tahoe, renowned for its crystal clear waters and spectacular mountain scenery. Spanning the California and Nevada border, Lake Tahoe offers the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Spend your time swimming, paddleboarding or enjoying a cruise on the lake, or explore miles of walking and cycling trails, scenic golf courses and opportunities for horse riding.

Day 9 – Drive to Tonopah, approx. 235 miles

Tonopah, a historic mining town that flourished following one of the West's largest silver discoveries in 1900. En route, stop at nearby Rhyolite, one of Nevada's best preserved ghost towns, and visit the fascinating Goldwell Open Air Museum, where striking sculptures stand amongst the remains of historic buildings. In Tonopah, explore the Historic Mining Park, visit the Central Nevada Museum, browse local shops and sample craft beers. With some of the darkest skies in the United States, Tonopah is also one of the country's best places for stargazing.

Day 10 – Drive to Caliente, approx. 195 miles

Caliente, a welcoming town with a rich railway heritage, surrounded by striking desert landscapes. Visit the beautifully restored Caliente Railroad Depot and discover the area's fascinating history before browsing local shops filled with antiques, gifts and regional crafts. Nearby, Cathedral Gorge State Park impresses with its dramatic rock formations, while Kershaw Ryan State Park offers peaceful walking trails beneath cottonwood trees.

Day 11 – Drive to Mesquite, approx. 195 miles

Mesquite, nestled in the scenic Virgin River Valley and surrounded by impressive red mesas. Known for its championship golf courses and welcoming small town atmosphere, Mesquite is an excellent base for outdoor adventures. Explore nearby state parks, enjoy walking and scenic drives, or discover the area's history at the Lost City Museum and the Virgin Valley Museum.

Day 12 - Drive to Las Vegas, approx. 85 miles

End your journey in Las Vegas, where world class resorts, spectacular entertainment and famous casinos await. Beyond the bright lights, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding desert on a dune buggy or jeep tour, enjoy horse riding or ziplining, or visit nearby attractions such as Lake Mead and the impressive Hoover Dam.
