The culture of Kentucky is synonymous with horses, bourbon, and festivals. To give you a taste of the Kentucky spirit, we have brought together the elements that define the Kentucky experience. From the thrill of horse racing to the sweet, spicy, and smoky notes of Kentucky bourbon.

Music

Music is an integral part of Kentucky's culture, stretching from the Appalachian Mountains to the Ohio River. The rich musical heritage of legends like Bill Monroe, Loretta Lynn, and the Everly Brothers is woven into the state's fabric. Year-round, live music can be enjoyed in venues both large and small, with performances taking place every day of the week on one of Kentucky’s many stages. Incredible venues like Renfro Valley Entertainment Center and the Madison Theater in Covington are great places to catch Kentucky bands like Kentucky’s own Cage the Elephant, as well as other national touring acts and up-and-comers. The nearby Lexington Opera House is the home stage for many local groups. You can also dance the night away at one of Kentucky's incredible music festivals. Experience the soulful sounds of the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival from 12-15 June in Henderson or enjoy the bluegrass tones of ROMP from 26-29 June in Owensboro.

Food

The culinary scene of Kentucky is the envy of the American states. Come and sit at the Kentucky table, where food traditions are both cherished and cutting-edge. Feast on farm-to-fork cuisine crafted by world-class chefs using products supplied by Kentucky Proud farmers. Discover Bluegrass specialties such as Hot Browns, bourbon balls, beer cheese, and West Kentucky barbecue. Indulge in impressive food experiences ranging from gourmet restaurants to hole-in-the-wall diners, where you just might have the best meal of your life. Visit The Historic Hermitage Farm in Goshen, which celebrates Kentucky’s unique heritage and signature industries. Experience the renowned thoroughbred horse operations, enjoy a sustainable, organic farm-to-table meal at their restaurant, and savour a bourbon bar and mint julep experience. Alternatively, grab a treat at Purdy’s Downtown in Richmond or Sonic in Bardstown to refuel before heading off to your next Kentucky adventure.

In Kentucky, bourbon is much more than a drink. Whether you're new to bourbon or an aficionado, prefer it neat or on the rocks, or want to eat your way through Bourbon Country or bike along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, there's a bourbon experience for you in the Bluegrass State. Savour culinary creations at restaurants renowned for bourbon-infused dishes, leaving you with spicy, unforgettable memories. Take a distillery tour at the Jim Beam Distillery and dine at The Kitchen Table, where each ingredient is steeped in bourbon heritage. Visit Makers Mark Distillery in Loretto, where you can dip your own bottle in wax at the end of your tour to take home. Deepen your knowledge with a Bourbon 101 class at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Bardstown.

September is a prime time to visit during National Bourbon Heritage Month, with festivals, concerts, and bourbon-soaked events. The Bourbon and Beyond festival in September will host more than 100 bands on five stages over four days, spotlighting some of the finest bourbons and food Kentucky has to offer.
