Day 1 - Fly from the UK to Charleston

Collect your car on arrival and stay three nights in Charleston.

Charleston is one of the Old South’s most authentic and best preserved cities with visitors immediately immersed in its romantic history and charm. Stroll the city’s cobbled streets, taking in the beautiful architecture, pastel coloured homes and authentic gas-lit lamps or take in its delights on-board one of the city’s splendid horse drawn carriages.

The city is awash with amazing restaurants serving up southern delights such as ‘shrimp and grits’ and ‘low-country boil'. Charleston has an array of rooftop bar from which you can relax and view city’s unique skyline and palmetto lined boulevards. Set on a peninsular you are never far from the water in Charleston and fascinating harbour tours give a whole other perspective of the city and allow guides to outline its strong colonial and American history.  

Nearby barrier islands are a ‘must-see’, with their captivating sand dunes and unspoilt white-sand beaches. These islands are also home to the United States’ only working tea plantation. Within 30 minutes of the city you will also find several fascinating plantation homes, including Boone Hall, Magnolia Plantation, Middleton Place, all set in beautiful grounds and providing yet more insights into Charleston’s engaging and vivid history.

Day 4 - Charleston to Myrtle Beach, SC (approx. 95 miles)

Stay three nights in Myrtle Beach.

As you head north along the Atlantic coast from Charleston be sure to stop along the way at Hopsewee Plantation before perhaps enjoying lunch on the water at the charming Georgetown Harborwalk. Rice, rather that cotton was the crop of choice in this part of the south and a visit to Hopsewee Plantation provides a unique insight into the history and workings of a southern rice plantation.

Myrtle Beach, set mid-way along the 60 mile arc of South Carolina’s Grand Strand beaches offers a seaside playground full of fun activity and entertainment venues. With a beautiful white sandy beach, iconic SkyWheel and bustling ‘Broadway at the Beach’ attraction and shopping area there is a wide array of fun activities on offer. In the evening the Myrtle Beach restaurant scene and live show venues provide a multitude of dining and entertainment options.

For a change of pace, head south for a day out at Pawley’s Island with its laid back beach vide and quaint shops, set amid trees laden with evocative Spanish moss. From here head back and visit Brookgreen Gardens, a stunning botanical and sculpture garden also home to a fascinating ‘Low-country’ Zoo. Set in over 9,000 acres Brookgreen Gardens is a wonder of native flora and fauna with streams, ponds and alley of live-oaks cloaked in Spanish moss.

Just a short drive from Brookgreen Gardens, and not far from Myrtle Beach itself is Murrell’s Inlet a charming fishing village offering plenty of on-water activities and the popular MarshWalk waterfront area which comes alive after dark with an array of beautiful dining and live-music establishments. The whole of the South Carolina coast is renowned for its myriad of top quality golfing opportunities with Myrtle Beach home to over 90 beautifully appointed course alone.

Day 7 - Myrtle Beach to Greenville, SC (approx. 250 miles) 

Stay three nights in Greenville an amazing mountain contrast to the coastal beauty you have just left behind.

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Greenville provides the beating heart of South Carolina’s Upcountry region. Home to several major corporations Greenville is a vibrant and affluent city with a host of top class dining establishments, unique boutiques, amazing galleries and museums all set around the amazing Falls Park on the Reedy. The parks centre-piece is Liberty Bridge, a 355 foot pedestrian walkway overlooking the historic waterfalls nestled in the heart of downtown.

Make your way up into the Appalachian Mountains for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area, hike one of the trails, rent mountain bikes, or just take a scenic drive through the countryside. Top spots for great look-outs are Caesars Head, Bald Rock and Sassafras Mountain.

Day 10 - Greenville to Hilton Head Island, SC (approx. 250 miles)

Stay three nights on Hilton Head .

Situated on the southern tip of South Carolina Hilton Head Island is an award winning resort Island known for its stunning beaches, array of outdoor activities and extensive dining and boutique hopping. The 60 miles of interconnected beach and boardwalk trails are a firm favourite with walker and cyclists who can make tours of the whole island. Hilton Head is renowned for its extensive and high quality golf course and resorts. Out on the water why not take to a paddleboard or go dolphin watching by boat. Harbour Town is home to a wonderful mix of unique dining, shopping outlets and PGA golf course set in the Sea Pines resort yachts next to the water.

Day 13 - Hilton Head Island to Beaufort, SC (approx. 35 miles)

Stay two nights in Beaufort .

Beaufort is one of the many gems to be found on the South Carolina coast with a rich history dating back to 1566. Remnants of Beaufort’s original English colonial settlement can still be found in the city’s amazing Historic District renowned for its concentration of beautiful Antebellum homes, set amongst centuries-old, moss-draped live oak trees. You can easily tour the district on foot, by horse drawn carriage or take a tour bus. Be sure to head for Bay Street, with its charming shop and boutiques and restaurants with patios that back onto Waterfront Park and the Beaufort River.

Day 15 - Beaufort to Charleston, SC (approx. 70 miles)

Return to Charleston and drop-off your car in time to check-in for your flight home.
